Museum Digital Strategy: Planning and Management introduces course introduced the management and planning concepts, frameworks and tools needed in the implementation of a digital strategy in a museum with its aim of reaching audiences, increasing engagement with the online communities and improving the visitor experience. The main outcome of this class prepared me to conduct strategic analysis from the museum’s digital activity to recommend strategic actions. It also focusing on pursuing the mission and vision and tailored to the target audiences based on different clients. From the hands-on practice, we can develop plans and recommendations for the implementation and evaluation of a digital strategy.

Main extractions from this class includes how to strategically analyze the external environment VS. the internal organization, the strategy formulations in digital strategies among various museums, digital transformations, collection management strategies, digital audiences, digital participations and content strategies, strategy implementations, etc.

The project I selected is the term project, The Peale Digital Strategy for Community Engagement 2022. This group project focused on how the Peale internally and externally embracing the new technology fields, especially in the midst of major renovations and the COVID-19 pandemic. We ideally hope this report can reflect how the Peale relies upon digital solutions to reach audiences, distribute programming, and engage communities. The layout of this project present very formal and professional contents include an introduction, the executive summary of findings, mission, strategic analysis, vision, target audience analysis, objectives, action plans, evaluations and exit strategy. We divided the strategic analysis into internal and external environments and came out with the integrated strength, weakness, opportunity, threat(SWOT) form. This 50-page summary of our report offers a clear results of how the museum show consider their digital opportunity in another level in order to expand their strength and present their archiving collections and deliver to more audiences.

Both the midterm strategic analysis report for the Peale or the final strategy formulation and implementation plan expanded teamwork collaboratively and correspondently. In teams we have agreed on all the arrangements, deadlines, and assigned work, and we distribute most of our work evenly for everyone and try our best to present each of our advantages. Before the midterm presentation, we have solid and detailed timelines that were agreed upon among all four of us on research, data collecting and sorting process, making out forms and Miro board, composing strategic plans, and composing our presentation. We evenly distributed most of the Miro boards, as we tried to have every member in the group know what each other had put and analyzed. Tess and Jesse put more effort into social media data gatherings, Mary focused more on the data sorting and management, and I focused more on visual designs of the Miro board and the presentation. Based on the feedback we get from the Peale, we strictly focused our aims on polishing the existed file, adding vision, objectives, values, and detailed action plans for each of our recommendations. Most content works were evenly distributed for everyone. For the last two weeks, Mary edited all comments that Elena has given us with first-draft writing; Jesse and Tess focused more on proofreading and reconsidering word choices, and my work is based on reforming all tables from Miro board to uniformed and visualized tables in Google Docs. I also composed Action Plan 4 and added more consideration to the website optimization and usability enhancement. Finally, I was taken responsibility for the entire format correction, document design, and visualization unity, as well as the cover letter design, document beautification, and presentation design. Indeed, I believe this is a wonderful experience of group work, and very glad and proud that we all contribute to this final strategic report and satisfactory presentation for the Peale.
